AZ STaR, as part of its mission statement, also educates the public on several
SAR topics as well as being the first search and rescue team to partner with
the
American
Red Cross and
Project
Impact in educating our community on disaster preparedness,
prevention, response and recovery.
AZ STaR members have assisted the
American
Red Cross with several disasters locally as well as nationally.
AZ
STaR Members have spent countless hours assisting with these disasters in a
variety of ways from helping to set up shelters for families displaced due to
fire to answering phone calls and scheduling blood donations after the recent
tragedy in NY, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania.
In addition to assisting the
American
Red Cross and
Project
Impact, AZ STaR also goes to schools, churches, local business’s,
and community events to help educate people on desert & wilderness safety
and survival, as well as the important role that SAR dogs and SAR teams play
in missing person incidents.
ALL AZ STaR members are volunteers who donate their time, purchase their own
equipment and assist the unit in raising funds for team equipment and
insurance.
